First CNG buses operating in Cairo
2010-07-19         http://www.eobus.com

200 buses running on natural gas were introduced in the Egyptian capital Cairo recently, a city that emits 13 million tonnes of CO2 per year. The aim is to decrease liquid fuelled private minibuses or vans. The passengers who already travelled in these buses were clearly satisfied with the new service offered by Cairo's council, which is definitely cleaner, advanced and more comfortable.

Cairo concentrates half of the vehicles in the country and deals with 20 million daily trips involving emissions that reach 13 million tonnes per year, as the World Bank reported. The renovation project is expected to be completed in 2012, when 1,100 new buses will be circulating through the city with the aim of renewing an aging fleet, reducing the number of accidents caused by the poor condition of old public transport and decreasing polluting emissions.
