Daimler wants to grow faster as a bus manufacturer than the competition. "I am quite sure that we will be growing twice as fast as the market as a whole," said Hartmut Schick, chief executive of the bus division of Daimler, comprising EvoBus and the US, Brazilian and Indian bus activities of the company, in an interview with the German newspaper "Die Welt". At this moment she is the worldwide market leader with a share of 13 percent of the bus and coach market.

He expects a growth of the world market for buses and coaches for this year of four percent, but wants the various Daimler bus and coach marques (Mercedes-Benz, Setra, Orion, Thomas-Built) to grow with eight percent. Last year, the Daimler buis division sold 32.482 integral buses and coaches, and chassis for these vehicles,  worldwide. It kept the Daimler bus division on the first spot, before Yutong from China and Tata from India.

Target is a worldwide market share of fifteen percent by the end of this year, gained by growth in Asia and Latin-America. For China there is room for other developments in the bus and coach field, in addition to the current co-operation between Setra and Ankai. "As soon as the co-operation project between Daimler and Foton will be authorized by the Chinese government, we will see how buses and coaches can be entered into this agreement." For Europe Schick expects a stable market with increasing competition on price. For the NAFTA-region he expects also a stable market.
