On the Symposium on Technological Development of Electric Vehicles held before Spring Festival, Wan Gang, minister of Ministry of Science and Technology pointed out,"from 2013 to 2015, the electric vehicles from foreign countries will concentrate on accessing into China and the international situation is urgent. At present, the electric vehicle industrialization in China is in a critical period of opportunities, the international competition pressure is large and the market demand is also great. We hope the complete vehicle enterprises, spare parts manufacturers, pilot cities, and exports and scholars make innovation through cooperation, improve system integration capacity, jointly create technological innovation chain and industry chain, explore business mode suited to development of electric buses in China, and meanwhile reinforce the establishment of standard systems and win the battle of development of auto industry in China."

Wan Gang: there was only one year for Chinese electric bus manufacturers to respond to challenge from foreign counterparts

Wan Gang said in the past we focused on key core technologies and when complete vehicles have been completed, issues which we did not take into consideration have become key core problems now. In electric vehicles sector, many small plug-ins and technologies often influence the formation of final business mode. As it's getting nearer and nearer to 2013, the deployment of R&D and design of such detailed technologies should be carried out urgently. If you do not pay attention to details, you can not occupy market.

Wan Gang stressed to further explore the business mode suited to the development of electric vehicles in China. We should fully play the role of demonstration project of introducing more than one thousand energy saving and new energy autos into ten larger cities which is underway, test electric vehicles through sample application, establish our own business mode and expand market. In his opinion, in next step there are two application modes to be referenced to for demonstration cities and complete manufacturers: the first is leasing, the electric vehicles should have a big role to play in leasing market and it's easier for this operating mode to get subsidy from our state. The second is logistics, especially in the aspect of urban logistic vehicles. If the demonstration operation of electric vehicles can make a breakthrough in such two fields, the market demand of one million electric vehicles should be created. Such markets are ones we can explore and are also unique ones in China which should be utilized by us.
